So... You're Looking for a Publisher

You've come to the right place. However, you're probably wondering what kind of publisher we are. The short version is as follows:

Quarter Press LLC specializes in illustrated works that fall into two main areas: Pop Culture (especially those on animation, videogames, film, and music) and those writings with a darker, fantastical slant (think Neil Gaiman, Erin Morgenstern, and Joe Hill). We also deal in publications with an emphasis on artwork. While your manuscript does not need to be a graphic work, be aware that if you choose to work with us, you will be working with an artist, too. And, of course, we love our writer / artists. If your work fits these criteria, and you want it to become an illustrated work, then we'd love to see your manuscript.

Even better, we PAY our authors and artists. Payment depends on submission type, publication size, etc., but we WILL work out a contract for payment! For example: zines may be paid in copies, while books may have anything from a small advance to a per-copy-sold payout. Same goes for artists, as there may be a small commission fee along with a per-copy-sold payout.

Please Note: We are looking for previously unpublished work, and ask for first-time publishing rights for an initial printing (which will be discussed and agreed upon prior to publication). Both author and artists will retain the rights to their work. Any future pritings will be discussed beforehand.

Don't have a book-length project? Then consider submitting your previously unpublished work to Quarter Press Zines! Check out our previous publications, here.

These can range from a 2.75 x 4", 16-page, staple-bound, hand-assembled publication to a perfect-bound chapbook publication of 40 pages or less. They can be a single story, a small collection of essays, or a graphic analysis. Heck, they could simply be an extended joke / strip comic! However, please note the sizes of our publications, as our Zines need to be one of these sizes / dimensions:

Hand-Assembled, Three Color Zines for 16 - 24 pages (These are all printed black, white, and an accent color of your choice):

  • 2.75" x 4"

  • 4" x 4"

Perfect Bound Zines for 24+ pages (can be full color, and other sizes may be discussed / considered, but these are preferred):

  • 4" x 4"

  • 5" x 8"

  • 6" x 9"

Zine submissions need to be finished! This means that we will not look at scripts or half-finished graphic works. Your submission must be in a final draft form to be considered! Script or unfinished works will be automatically rejected.

That being said, if your work is primarily text--a short story, a small collection of essays, etc.--you do NOT need to find an artists. If you have one, or are one, please submit the work complete with illustration. Otherwise, we will find an artist to provide the cover and a handful of illustrations to accompany your text. Of course, text submissions still need to be complete and in a final draft form.

If you've got a previously unpublished work over 10,000 words or more than 40 pages of graphic work, then you fall into this category. Please see the individual submission types for guidelines on what we're looking for:

Please ONLY query finished texts. If your text is unfinished, it will be automatically rejected.

For fiction, please submit as a Doc or PDF :

  • Your query letter;

  • A 1 - 2 page synopsis;

  • A short list of artists whose styles you like / envision for the book;

  • The first three chapters or the first 20 pages, whichever is shorter.

Non-fiction submissions do not need to be finished and can be a proposal.

For non-fiction, please submit as a Doc or PDF:

  • Your query letter / proposal, including expected length;

  • A short list of artists you like / envision for this;

  • An Annotated Table of Contents;

  • The first chapter or a completed, sample chapter;

  • Date of Anticipated Completion.

Graphic submissions, fiction or non-fiction, do not need to have finished artwork but MUST be a completed script with sample pages.

Please submit as a Doc or PDF:

  • Your query letter;

  • A 1 - 2 page synopsis;

  • Twenty completed pages;

  • The completed script or storyboard.

Remember, you must be the--or have an--artist for fully graphic work.

At this time, we do NOT accept any unsolicited, book-length poetry collections.

We hope to change this soon.

However, we DO consider fully illustrated, poetry zines. See above section for guidelines.

If you're an artist and want to be "on our list" of folks we'll contact about projects, please, let us know!

Submit your name, a link to your work (website or Instagram), and a brief list of your ideal projects.
